The mountains of Snowdonia in art
After photographing many works of art in Stradey Castle Llanelli, Several people have asked for copies of the paintings by artists such as C W Mansel – Lewis and Hubert Von Herkomer for various publications and talks relating to the art works in the Castle. The below title by Peter Bishop has an images taken by Dan Staveley on the back cover of the book. Below are details of the new book.
About the Book
This book presents a wide range of art works that have been made of the mountains of Snowdonia. It covers a 250 year period from 1765 to the present day. There are 70 colour plates illustrating the work of 48 artists. A wide range of media is covered including drawing, watercolour, print, and painting. The aim is to present this topic in an accessible format with the reproduced art work being supported by both an artist biography and a description of the illustrated work. Each of the viewpoint chapters focuses on a particular location in Snowdonia.
About the Author
Peter Bishop was born in 1953. He attended Banbury School of Art from 1970 to 1972 and then studied painting at the Slade School of Fine Art graduating in 1975. In 1995 he obtained his Masters degree with distinction in the History of Art from the Birmingham Institute of Art and Design. In 2002 he completed his Doctorate at the School of Art, Aberystwyth University. As an artist he has been making paintings since the early 1970s and held his first solo exhibition of Alpine landscapes in London in 1975. Since the mid 1980s he has concentrated on the mountains of Snowdonia as his main subject. He has held ten one person exhibitions and has shown in the Royal Academy’s summer exhibitions and in many group shows. In 2012 he had a major exhibition on the theme of Cader Idris at the Museum of Modern Art, Wales. His work is in many private and public collections.
